How this sheep gestation calculator works

This sheep model uses the Merck average of 147 days. Other extension tables use a rounded 150-day figure; the source choice is made explicit rather than silently mixing the two. No breed correction or litter-size adjustment is invented. The buffer is a planning choice around the mean, and the exposure window captures uncertainty in when breeding actually occurred.

A worked example

For a record beginning on September 1, 2026, adding 147 days gives 2027-01-26. An exposure window ending three days later shifts the last average-date estimate three days later too. The extra buffer changes the planning endpoints, not the central due-date calculation.

Known dates and exposure windows

A single documented breeding or insemination date is a different input from a period when breeding could have occurred. For a window, enter both endpoints in order. The central reference is applied to the first and last possible dates. Source-specific lower and upper endpoints, where available, extend that exposure uncertainty. The extra buffer then adds the user’s own planning margin. These distinct choices stay visible so a wide window does not masquerade as a precise forecast.
